What is Aldol Condensation?

Aldol condensation means or it occurs in only aldehydes having (alpha-hydrogen) α-hydrogen with a dilute base to give (beta-hydroxy) β-hydroxy aldehydes called as aldols. This reaction is mostly commonly known as aldol condensation. In different case, If the aldol condensation reaction occurs between two different carbonyl compounds it is called crossed aldol condensation.
